Kids art workshops

About the Teacher:

Julia is an artist and art educator with a BA in Art & Elementary Education and MEd in Curriculum from St. Michaels College. She has over 7 years of experience teaching art to age groups from preschool to graduate level. She currently teaches K-4 art at Shelburne Community School. She enjoys facilitating meaningful art experiences that allow children to find their own artistic style, build their toolbox of unique ways to create, and make connections with one another. Creative risk taking, experimenting, problem solving, and joy (!) are at the forefront of learning and art making.

Kids Workshop Format:

The structure of our two hour kids workshops consist of a warm-up activity, reading of a story or looking at artworks for inspiration and then the main art project with an extension activity for early finishers. Please bring a water bottle and wear clothes that are okay for the potential for mess!

Upcoming Workshops

Papermaking with Mikhala Kaseweter Sept 13, 10AM-12PM

Join Northwest Vermont Solid Waste District’s Mikhala Kaseweter on Saturday, September X, to try your hand at papermaking. We’ll be turning old scrap paper and junk mail into fresh sheets, recycling paper using the same process that paper mills do but on a small scale. You’ll learn about the pulping process, spend time pulling sheets using a mold and deckle, and connect this process to NWSWD’s own work in Franklin County. There’s ample room for artistic experimenting. Prepare to get splashed on!”

“Mikhala Kaseweter (she/they) serves as Program Coordinator for Northwest Vermont Solid Waste District, providing sustainability education to Vermont residents and businesses both online and in person. Under her leadership, NWSWD has expanded programming to include recycling workshops (e.g., papermaking, mending) and community partnerships, such as an upcycled art show hosted by Swanton Arts Council. Outside of work, Mikhala can be found eating, thrifting, and befriending nonhuman animals.”
